Chronic pain refers to persistent pain that lasts from weeks to years. Many of us are not used to the term “chronic pain” since we are taught to believe that pain goes away once the tissues heal following an injury or illness. However, as reported by the Australian Pain management Association, one in five Australians live with persistent pain.
Chronic pain is caused by dysfunction or inflammation of nerves and nervous systems, including the central nervous system made up of the brain and spinal cord. Chronic pain can be intense and unrelenting, and lead to various degrees of disability if it is not managed well.
An active exercise program is beneficial for people living with persistent (chronic) pain. Our physiotherapist will customise an exercise program for your needs which you can practice and build into your own schedule. Our physiotherapist will assess your present physical activity levels and capacity when making these exercise programs to best suit your overall physical health.
