Sports Biomechanics

Sports Biomechanics is a detailed analysis of sport movements in order to minimise the risk of injury and improve sports performance. This process involves the study of interactions between the athlete and their equipment as well as their training/competition environments.

Benefits of Sports Biomechanics include:

  • Assessment of skeletal system function, muscle recruitment and the impact of forces on the body affecting the loading

  • Analysis of loading patterns to determine the most appropriate methods for an athlete to perform an exercise/task or a sport optimally

  • Identification of errors in technique to enhance sports performance

  • Analysis of the use of sporting equipment (shoes, bats/racquets) and the use of sports gear/clothing as well as training/competition surfaces
